Two-factor authentication (2FA), also known as multi-factor authentication (MFA), is an effective and valuable tool that organizations should take advantage of to secure their accounts. There are several types of 2FA, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. However, attackers can use social engineering to hack even the most secure forms of 2FA and gain access to accounts they should not have access to. This paper looks at some of the ways in which 2FA can be compromised and discusses how to these vulnerabilities.
